The German Literature Archive collects video games linked to German literature or with notable narrative approaches.


However, collecting video games also involves making them accessible and digitally archiving them. This article, written as a workshop report, aims to provide insight into the current processes of collecting, making accessible, and preserving literary games at the German Literature Archive.

Das Deutsche Literaturarchiv sammelt Video Games mit Verbindung zur deutschen Literatur oder bemerkenswerten Narationsmethoden. Doch Video Games sammeln heißt auch bereitstellen und digital archivieren. Dieser Beitrag soll, in einer Art Werkstattbericht, Einblick geben in die aktuellen Prozesse der Sammlung, Bereitstellung und Langzeitarchivierung von literarischen Games am Deutschen Literaturarchiv.


Alex Holz

Alex Holz is a trained media designer and studied art history, literature, and Romance languages. Before joining the German Literature Archive in Marbach in 2020, he worked as a UI and UX designer in software development. At the DLA, he is a research assistant in the “Digital Archive” department, where he is primarily involved with born-digital materials and develops concepts and workflows for long-term digital archiving as well as the processing and provision of digital archival materials. Alex is a member of the Nestor working group “Personal Digital Archiving” and the working group “Digital Art History.”
