This essay proposes that game-sub-texts (program codes, cuircit diagrams etc.) have established their own sublime textual culture.

Their aesthetics, historical structures, and interdependencies can be analyzed using philological methods, as is usual with literary texts. The question of the literary nature of the texts behind the computer games — the program codes — is closely linked to the problems of their transmission, reception, preservation, and digitization. The corpus of these texts is growing rapidly, which not only leads to a pleasing abundance of material, but — as has always been the case with ‘utility texts’ — to marginalization, forgetting, and discarding, and this despite the fact that these texts are hardly dependent on the substrate paper today.
