Als zentrale Textsortenmerkmale werden autobiographische Gebundenheit, der Klassenwechsel der Erzählfigur und die Anbindung an soziologische Wissensbestände ausgemacht. Eine kritische Diskussion dieser Merkmale macht deutlich, dass sie das Gattungsfeld unnötig verengen. Zugleich werden der Gattung Texte zugerechnet, die konträr zur Begriffsherkunft und diesen Merkmalen stehen. Der Aufsatz plädiert daher für eine Eingrenzung des Gattungsbegriffs auf autobiographisch gebundene Texte mit expliziter oder impliziter soziologischer Aussageintention.
The article reconstructs the origin of the term »autosociobiography« and analyses current research on autosociobiographically read texts written in German. It identifies the key characteristics of the genre as autobiographical ties, the narrator’s change of class and the connection to sociological knowledge. A critical discussion of these characteristics reveals that they unnecessarily narrow the field of this genre. At the same time, texts are associated with the genre that are in fact contrary to the origin of the term and its characteristics. The article therefore argues in favour of limiting the genre to autobiographical texts with an explicit or implicit sociological intention.
