Der Beitrag ordnet dies ein und erklärt, was die Abschaffung eines Grafenhofes im 18. Jahrhundert bedeutete und welche Rolle dem Niederadel dabei zukam. Strukturen, Hofchargen und Personen werden dafür in Beziehung gesetzt und zudem nachgespürt, warum Wilhelm seinen Hof auf seine eigene Weise gestaltete, welches Prestige und vor allem auch welche Probleme sich damit verbanden.
The court of Count Wilhelm has hitherto attracted minimal scholarly interest, partly because it is assumed that he abolished all courtly traditions immediately upon taking office. The present article provides the necessary context for this assumption by explaining what the abolition of a count's court entailed within the 18th-century Old Empire, and the role of the lower nobility in this process. Court structures, offices and individuals are examined in relation to one another to shed light on the reasons behind Wilhelm's unique organisation of his court, as well as the prestige and the problems associated with it.
